The private practice of Jessica Sprague, MS, EAMP

Clinical Specialties

My goal is to provide a relaxing setting where patients receive a full hour of personalized care.  I have established a patient-centered model of practicing, where there is ample time for me to listen, to remain focused, and to develop a diagnosis and treatment strategy best suited for each individual.  I believe empathy, insight and clear communication are essential elements of a successful patient-practitioner relationship.

I am a licensed and board-certified Acupuncturist and have maintained a private practice in the greater Seattle area since 2008, having earned both a Master’s in Science in Acupuncture and Certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine from Bastyr University. I am an experienced and skillful practitioner and have developed a very gentle needle technique, which is suitable for all age groups. My focus is on pain management, hormonal imbalance, digestive complaints, and anxiety & depression.

As an acupuncturist and herbalist, I evaluate and educate patients within the framework of East Asian medicine, while striving to advance the relationship between traditional and modern medicine. I have a strong background in science and in western medical pathology and treatment modalities, and do not hesitate to refer to a collaborating physician or specialist for further evaluation when necessary.

My clinical specialties include:

  • Neck, shoulder & back pain

  • Jaw pain/TMJD

  • Sciatica/hip pain

  • Knee pain

  • Headache

  • Tinnitus

  • Peripheral Neuropathy

  • Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Digestive disorders, such as heartburn, acid reflux, abdominal pain, constipation, and Ulcerative Colitis

  • Anxiety & depression, fatigue, insomnia

  • Menstrual irregularity, PMS, and menopausal syndrome

  • Allergies and acute & chronic sinusitis

  • NADA protocol for chemical dependence

East Asian Medicine, Philosophy and Practice

Patients often ask me “How does acupuncture work?” At its essence, Chinese medicine aligns the body – both within and without. It restores balance to the body and mind, while re-establishing the connection between an individual and his or her environment. When sickness or disease manifests, it is due to a disruption of this natural state of balance. Acupuncture, ideally partnered with herbal medicine, assists the body’s innate healing ability to repair itself.

The theory of Chinese medicine is rooted in ancient Taoist thought, born of a keen observation of the cycles of transformation within the natural world.  Man, nature, and the universe were seen as a functional whole; patterns of disharmony resulted in an imbalance of the natural order and ultimately, manifested in the disease state.  My practice is based upon these founding principles.  Each patient will be assessed in relation to his or her inherent constitution and emerging patterns, while taking into consideration the impact of a slight shift in season or environment.

The Chinese medical diagnostic strategy is both art and science, and consequently each treatment is unique.  Specific treatment protocols will be prescribed for each individual, designed to address subtle patterns of imbalance.  Other techniques may be incorporated into the acupuncture visit as necessary; such as Cupping, Electro-acupuncture, or Chinese herbal therapy.

I strive to maintain a practice which is equally professional and innovative – and as an advocate for a thoroughly integrated approach to healthcare, I seek support within both traditional and modern medical communities. Deeply committed to patient care, I perceive medicine to be a synthesis of artistic sensitivity and scientific method.
